Connecting OKX by hand takes more steps than most exchanges. You create an API key, choose its permissions, set a passphrase, copy a secret you'll only see once, and paste all three into Freya without a typo.
With Fast Connection none of that is needed. Freya is a registered OKX broker, which lets OKX create the key inside your own account and hand it to Freya directly. You approve once, on OKX's own screen, and both your Spot and Futures connections appear in Freya.
This article explains what that approval does, what it changes on your OKX account, and what to do when OKX or Freya shows a message instead of a green tick.
Key Takeaways
- You approve Freya on OKX's own site. OKX creates the key and Freya receives it on its servers.
- You never see, copy, or type the secret or the passphrase.
- One approval sets up both OKX Spot and OKX Futures.
- The key can read and trade. Freya never asks for withdrawal and refuses any key that could withdraw.
- OKX allows one Freya key per OKX account, so replacing a key starts with removing the old one on OKX.
What "One Click" Actually Means
OKX creates the key, not you. After you approve, OKX creates an API key for Freya inside your OKX account. It shows up on OKX under the name FreyaFinance.
The credentials never pass through your hands. The key and its secret go from OKX straight to Freya's servers and are stored encrypted, together with the key's passphrase. Nothing is copied through your clipboard, a chat message or a screenshot, which is how API keys most often leak.
No passphrase to invent, no IP to paste. OKX keys always have a passphrase. With Fast Connection, Freya sets it for you and stores it with the key, so there is nothing to remember. You don't copy an IP address anywhere either.
What You're Approving
The key Fast Connection creates can:
- Read your balances, positions, and order history
- Place, amend, and cancel orders, which is what lets a bot trade
It cannot:
- Withdraw or transfer funds. Freya never requests withdrawal. If a key ever arrives able to withdraw, Freya refuses it and doesn't save it.
- Change your OKX password or security settings.
This is the same access a correctly created manual key has. Fast Connection doesn't grant more; it just spares you from picking the permissions by hand.
The Flow, Step by Step
- Open Settings → API Keys and select Add API Key.
- Pick OKX. The Fast Connection tab is selected by default.
- Select Connect with OKX. The page moves to OKX in the same tab.
- Sign in to OKX with your main account, or create an OKX account first if you don't have one.
- Review the request and approve it.
- You come back to Freya and see OKX connected: your OKX Spot and OKX Futures keys are added.
Finish in the same browser you started in. If the page that comes back to Freya isn't the one that started, or you waited too long on OKX, you see This attempt could not be matched. Nothing was created; start the connection again from the same screen.
If You Decline
Nothing is created and nothing changes. Freya shows Connection cancelled (You declined on OKX's screen, so no API key was created.), and you can try again whenever you like.
If OKX Doesn't Create a Key
Occasionally OKX doesn't allow the connection to create a key. You see OKX did not create a key, and nothing was added to your OKX account. Connect with a key you create yourself on the Manual Connection tab instead; How to Connect Your Exchange walks through it.
What Connecting Changes on Your OKX Account
Fast Connection prepares your account so both Spot and Futures bots can run. Two settings may change, and it's worth knowing about them before you approve.
Account mode. Futures need an OKX account mode that allows them. If your account is in Spot mode, Freya switches it to Futures mode for you. If OKX won't allow the switch, for example because of open positions or open orders, your connection still works for Spot. Freya then shows Needs OKX Futures mode. Spot is ready and explains the fix: to run futures bots, switch the account to Futures mode on OKX under Trade → Account mode.
Position mode. Freya's futures bots use long/short (hedge) mode, so long and short positions can be open at the same time. Freya switches it on when you connect. If you have open one-way positions, the switch waits until they close, and you see Will activate once your open One-Way positions close.
Nothing else on your account changes, and your funds stay where they are.
One Freya Key per OKX Account
OKX lets each account hold one key for Freya. Most messages you might meet come back to this rule.
The same account is already connected here. Connecting it again changes nothing: you see This OKX account is already connected. That protects the key your bots are using right now.
OKX already has a Freya key. The key from an earlier connection is still on OKX, so OKX didn't create a new one. Freya shows OKX already has a Freya key with three steps:
- Open the OKX authorization page with the button Freya shows you.
- Remove FreyaFinance there. Its API key is deleted with it. Your other API keys aren't affected.
- Come back and select Try Again.
The key belongs to another Freya account. If the message is This OKX account is connected to another Freya account, don't remove anything on OKX: the bots on that other account would stop. Add OKX to this account with Manual Connection instead.
Freya can't tell who uses the key. If Freya asks you to check before you remove anything on OKX, only remove FreyaFinance when you are sure no Freya account uses it. If you're not sure, use Manual Connection.
Replacing a Key That Stopped Working
- Stop the bots that use your OKX keys. Freya won't delete a key a running bot still uses.
- Delete both OKX Spot and OKX Futures on the API Keys page. They share one key on OKX.
- Remove FreyaFinance on OKX's authorization page. Deleting in Freya alone leaves the old key on OKX.
- Connect again with Fast Connection, then point your bots at the new keys.
After You Connect
Your keys appear under Settings → API Keys as OKX Spot and OKX Futures, and any bot you create can use them straight away. A key you added by hand earlier is never touched; both can exist side by side.
Sign in with OKX. Once your main OKX account is connected this way, you can also use it to log in. Turn it on under Settings → Profile Settings → Sign-in methods. It works while the connection stays in place: if you remove it, the switch tells you to connect this OKX account again first.
Removing access is in your hands. Deleting the keys in Freya removes Freya's copy but leaves the key on OKX; Freya then shows you how to remove it there. Removing FreyaFinance on OKX's authorization page deletes the key on OKX, and both OKX Spot and OKX Futures stop working at once.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Fast Connection to OKX safe?
It is at least as safe as creating the key by hand. OKX generates the key inside your account and it goes straight to Freya's servers, so the secret never sits in your clipboard or a screenshot. You approve on OKX's own domain and can decline there with nothing created.
Does Freya see my OKX password?
No. You sign in on OKX's site, not Freya's. Freya never receives your OKX login details.
Can Freya withdraw my funds?
No. The key carries read and trade permission only, and Freya refuses any key that could withdraw. Your funds can only leave your OKX account by your own action.
Do I need to create a passphrase?
No. OKX keys always have one, and with Fast Connection Freya sets it and stores it with the key. You only need a passphrase of your own for a key you create by hand.
Do I need to do this separately for Spot and Futures?
No. One approval adds both OKX Spot and OKX Futures. They share the same key on OKX.
Will connecting change anything on my OKX account?
It can change two settings so futures bots can run: the account mode, if your account is in Spot mode, and the position mode, to long/short. Freya tells you if either one couldn't be changed. It also adds one key named FreyaFinance, which you can remove on OKX's authorization page at any time.
Can I use an OKX sub-account?
Fast Connection is meant for your main OKX account. For a sub-account, create a key inside that sub-account and use Manual Connection.
Can I still connect manually if I prefer?
Yes. The Manual Connection tab is always available. See How to Connect Your Exchange to Freya Finance for the manual steps, including the passphrase.
