Fast Connection to Bybit: One-Click Setup Explained
Connecting an exchange has always been the least pleasant part of starting with a trading bot. You leave the platform, hunt for the API section, decide which permissions sound safe, copy a secret you're told you'll only see once, paste an IP address into a field, and hope you got it all right.
On Bybit, none of that is necessary any more. Freya is a registered Bybit broker, which lets Bybit create the key itself and hand it straight to Freya. You approve once, on Bybit's own screen, and you're done.
This article explains what that actually does — because "one click" is exactly the kind of claim that deserves to be unpacked when it involves access to your trading account.
Key Takeaways
- You approve Freya on Bybit's own site; Bybit creates the key and sends it to Freya's servers directly.
- The credential never passes through your browser, clipboard, or a screenshot — which is how keys usually leak.
- No IP whitelisting, and the key doesn't expire, because Bybit binds it to Freya's servers itself.
- One approval sets up both Spot and Futures.
- It grants exactly the same access a manual key does: read and trade, never withdrawal.
What "One Click" Actually Means
Three things happen when you approve, and it's worth being precise about each.
Bybit creates the key, not Freya. Freya never generates a credential on your behalf and never asks you for your Bybit password. The key is minted inside your own Bybit account, by Bybit, after you approve on their domain.
The key is delivered server to server. It goes from Bybit's systems to Freya's, without a round trip through your browser. This matters more than it sounds: the most common way an API key leaks isn't a breach — it's a secret sitting in a clipboard, a chat message, a screenshot, or a text file someone forgot about. Fast Connection removes that step entirely.
Bybit binds the key to Freya's servers. Because Freya is a registered broker, Bybit knows which addresses the key may be used from and applies that restriction itself. You don't copy an IP address anywhere.
Why It Doesn't Expire
A key you create by hand on Bybit can carry an expiry. When it lapses, your bots stop being able to act — usually at the least convenient moment, and often without an obvious explanation.
A broker-bound key doesn't have that problem. Because it is already restricted to Freya's servers, Bybit doesn't need an expiry as a second safety net. In practice this means one less thing that can silently break a running bot.
What You're Approving
Bybit's consent screen tells you what is being requested, and it's worth reading rather than clicking past.
The key Fast Connection produces can:
- Read your balances, positions, and order history
- Place, amend, and cancel orders — this is what lets a bot trade
It cannot:
- Withdraw or transfer funds. Not to Freya, not anywhere. Freya doesn't request this permission and could not use it if it were granted.
- Change your account settings, security, or password.
This is the same scope a correctly-created manual key has. Fast Connection doesn't grant more; it just spares you from choosing the permissions by hand — which is also where manual setups most often go wrong, in both directions.
The Flow, Step by Step
- Open Settings → API Keys and select Add API Key.
- Pick Bybit. The Fast Connection tab is selected by default.
- Select Connect with Bybit. A Bybit tab opens.
- Sign in to Bybit — or create an account there if you don't have one. Take as long as you need; the connection is waiting.
- Read the consent screen and approve.
- The tab closes and both your Spot and Futures keys appear in Freya.
If You Decline
Nothing is created and nothing changes. You can decline for any reason — or no reason — and try again later. Closing the tab without deciding has the same result.
If Your Browser Blocks the Tab
Some browsers block a new tab even when you clicked a button. Freya notices and shows you a link to open Bybit yourself; the connection then continues exactly as normal.
After You Connect
Your Bybit keys appear under Settings → API Keys, one for Spot and one for Futures, and any bot you create can use them straight away.
Connecting again later is safe. Bybit issues one key per platform per account, so a second connection refreshes the existing one rather than adding duplicates.
Removing access is in your hands, from either side. Delete the key in Freya and the stored credential goes with it. Revoke it in your Bybit account and access stops there. Either action is enough on its own.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Fast Connection safe?
It is at least as safe as creating the key by hand, and arguably safer. The credential is generated by Bybit and delivered directly to Freya's servers, so it never sits in your clipboard or a screenshot. You approve on Bybit's own domain, and you can decline there with nothing created.
Does Freya see my Bybit password?
No. You sign in on Bybit's site, not Freya's. Freya never receives your Bybit login details.
Can Freya withdraw my funds?
No. The key carries no withdrawal permission, and Freya never requests one. Your funds can only leave your Bybit account by your own action.
Why doesn't Freya ask me to whitelist an IP?
Because Bybit does it for us. As a registered broker, Freya's server addresses are known to Bybit, and the key it issues is restricted to them automatically.
Do I need to do this separately for Spot and Futures?
No — one approval covers both.
Can I still connect manually if I prefer?
Yes. The Manual Connection tab is always available, and it's the only route on Binance and OKX. See Connect Bybit to Freya for the manual steps.
Does this work with a Bybit sub-account?
Fast Connection is intended for your main Bybit account. For a sub-account, use Manual Connection.
What if I already added a Bybit key by hand?
Keep it, or connect with Fast Connection and use the new one — both can exist. Fast Connection only refreshes keys it created itself, so a key you typed in by hand is never touched.
