#Connect Bybit to Freya

Bybit is the one exchange where Freya can set the connection up for you. Freya is a registered Bybit broker, which means Bybit will create the API key on its own side, attach the right permissions, and hand it to Freya directly — you never see a key, never copy a secret, and never whitelist an IP address.

That route is called Fast Connection. The older route, where you create the key yourself on Bybit, still exists and still works. This guide covers both, plus what to do when you need to replace a key or when a connection fails.

#Before You Start

Two things are worth checking first.

Fund the account you're connecting. A bot cannot open a position on an empty balance, and Freya will happily connect a key that has nothing to trade with. If you plan to run futures bots, make sure the funds are in the account your bots will use.

Use a browser. Both routes work on desktop and mobile browsers. Creating an API key by hand is a browser-only task on Bybit's side — their mobile app doesn't expose the API key screen.

#Fast Connection

This is the route we recommend. It takes about fifteen seconds if you're already signed in to Bybit.

1. In Freya, open Settings → API Keys and select Add API Key.
2. Choose Bybit as the exchange. The Fast Connection tab is already selected.
3. Select Connect with Bybit. A Bybit tab opens.
4. Sign in to Bybit. If you don't have an account yet, you can create one right there and come back — the connection waits for you.
5. Review and approve. Bybit shows you exactly what Freya is asking for. Approving is the only step that grants anything.
6. The tab closes itself and your keys appear in Freya, ready to use.

One approval covers both Spot and Futures. You don't repeat this per market.

#What Happens Behind the Scenes

When you approve, Bybit creates an API key tied to Freya's broker registration and sends it straight to Freya's servers. Because it arrives that way, it never passes through your browser, your clipboard, or a screenshot — which is how API keys most often leak.

Bybit also binds that key to Freya's servers by itself. Two consequences you benefit from:

• No IP whitelisting. There is nothing for you to copy or paste into Bybit's settings.
• The key doesn't expire. A key you create by hand can expire; a broker-bound one doesn't.

#If You Change Your Mind

Declining on Bybit's screen is completely safe. Nothing is created on Bybit and nothing changes in Freya — you'll simply see that the authorization wasn't completed, and you can try again whenever you like.

Closing the Bybit tab without deciding has the same effect.

#Replacing a Bybit Key

Sometimes you need a fresh key — you revoked the old one on Bybit, you're moving to a different Bybit account, or support asked you to reconnect.

With Fast Connection, just connect again. Open Settings → API Keys → Add API Key, choose Bybit, and select Connect with Bybit as before. Bybit issues one key per platform per account, so reconnecting refreshes what you already have rather than stacking a second copy. Your existing bots keep running on the refreshed credential.

If you deleted the key on Bybit's side first, reconnecting is also the fix — Bybit will issue a new one on approval.

⚠️ Don't delete your Freya key while bots are running unless you intend to stop them. A running bot with no working credential cannot manage the position it already opened. Stop or close your bots first, then reconnect.

#Manual Connection

Use this if you prefer to create the key yourself, or if you're connecting a Bybit sub-account.

#Create the Key on Bybit

1. Sign in to Bybit in a browser and open your account's API section.
2. Create a System-generated API key.
3. Choose API Transaction as the usage type — not read-only.
4. Grant Contract Trade and Spot Trade permissions, plus read access.
5. Never grant Withdrawal. Freya doesn't need it and cannot use it.
6. Restrict the key by IP and enter Freya's address, which the modal shows you and lets you copy.

⚠️ Bybit shows your secret key exactly once. Copy it before you close that screen. If you lose it, the key cannot be recovered — you have to create a new one.

#Add the Key to Freya

1. In Freya, open Settings → API Keys → Add API Key and choose Bybit.
2. Switch to the Manual Connection tab.
3. Paste the API key and secret, and give the key a name you'll recognize later.
4. Select Add API Key. Freya validates the connection and the permissions immediately.

#Frequently Asked Questions

#Which route should I use?

Fast Connection, unless you have a specific reason not to. It is fewer steps, it can't go wrong through a typo, and it removes IP whitelisting entirely. Manual Connection exists for people who want to create and control the key themselves, and for sub-accounts.

#Does Fast Connection give Freya more access than a manual key?

No. Both routes produce a trading key with the same scope: read and trade, never withdrawal. The difference is who does the setup, not what the key can do.

#Do I need to whitelist an IP address?

Only with Manual Connection. Fast Connection has Bybit bind the key to Freya's servers automatically, which is also why that key doesn't expire.

#Can I connect Bybit Spot and Futures separately?

With Fast Connection you don't have to — one approval sets up both. With Manual Connection you can add separate keys if you prefer to keep the markets apart.

#What happens if I connect twice?

Nothing breaks and nothing duplicates. Bybit issues one key per platform per account, so a second connection refreshes the existing one.

#Can I use Fast Connection with a Bybit sub-account?

Use Manual Connection for sub-accounts. Fast Connection is intended for your main Bybit account.

#Is my key safe once it's in Freya?

#Freya says my key is invalid right after connecting. Why?

Most often the key was created without trading permission, or it was restricted to an IP that isn't Freya's. With Fast Connection neither can happen, so reconnecting through that route is usually the quickest fix.
